A Personal Update

I have been blessed to lead an interesting life and for the better part of almost two decades a self-employed entrepreneur/business owner. But my passion has shifted and, as of November, I have changed careers. I wanted to take this opportunity to explain why and how I intend to continue my duties as District 3’s representative.

As some of you may know, my post-college life and careers have been primarily focused in the entertainment industry as a touring singer/songwriter/producer and also in the advertising design world as graphic designer/prepress operator/art director and creative director. While I always had an underlying belief in the importance of public service, it wasn’t until starting a local business and having 3 young children that I became a more active community member. I decided that I wanted to contribute more and got intimately involved in 2011 as a city commissioner.

In 2014, I made the decision to run for city council. It was an incredibly challenging process and I could not have given a campaign the amount of time and energy necessary had I not been my own boss with an ability to flexibly set schedules that worked for such an undertaking. That flexibility led to late work nights and early mornings… and has continued to serve me well in my capacity as a councilmember. I have been able to answer phone calls and emails almost immediately in most cases. I have been able to devote a good deal of time to problems, causes and policy work at the local, regional and state levels that will have positive impacts on our community and subregion. I am truly grateful to have created and maintained a work environment that not only benefited those I serve… but my family as well.

As a result of this work and the energy it consumed, I realized my passion for design was waning while my passion for public service was growing. As a result, I began looking for ways to contribute my skills and resources within the public sector. Recently, I was approached by another local municipality about an opening and, as of November, I have become the City Clerk and Executive Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Rolling Hills.

While my work schedule does not come with the same flexibility mentioned above… I am still able to meet the commitments to my position as your representative. I may not respond to emails or phone calls right away, but I will continue to provide the best customer service possible to those residents and businesses in need as I have for the past 6.5 years. I look forward to these final 15 months as I wind down my second and final term, and thank you for the kind words and support over the years. If anyone has further questions or concerns, as always, don’t hesitate to email or call me anytime.
